1786 – 1841: Governor Generals of the “Province of Canada”

Below are lists of the former Governors General of New France and British North America called Canada became in 1867, and a list of the former Governors General of Canada since 1867. Two members of the Royal Family have held this post: the Duke of Connaught and the Earl of Athlone. The first Canadian born Governor General was Vincent Massey.
